Replacement Development of a UPS System
Project Duration: January 1, 2022 – December 30, 2023
Buyer: JNS
Role: Lead for Battery System Design, Manufacturing, and Validation
Project Overview
This project aimed to develop a next-generation UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) unit designed for harsh environments such as those found in combat or tactical vehicles. The focus was on enhancing stability, EMI shielding, and vibration resistance while localizing core technologies for national defense applications.
As the technical lead, I oversaw the system’s battery architecture, electromagnetic shielding, shock/vibration resistance testing, and full design-to-production workflow.
My Contributions
- Led development of a high-survivability UPS with robust power conditioning logic
- Designed enclosure with EMI shielding and thermal dissipation features
- Performed structural validation and system verification to meet military compliance (KDS/KMIL)
- Established design for manufacturability and cost reduction via localization
Outcomes
- Mitigated operational risk from legacy UPS failures in defense equipment
- Improved domestic supply chain security via component localization
- Validated under battlefield-mimicking vibration, EMI, and thermal shock scenarios
